Karuna Kumar School


Karuna Kumar means compassionate to the kids. Karuna means compassion and Kumar means kids. Karuna Kumar School (KKS) is the Green Umbrella’s Primary School which provides education to poor children from kindergarten to primary school. The school operates from 7.00am to 4.00pm, Mondays to Fridays.

Once a year, in September and October, Green Umbrella carefully selects one child from different poor families to attend a Kindergarten. The selection criteria include poverty level of the family, intelligence as well as health of the child.

Academic Support

Children are provided with an education based on the Khmer curriculum, which includes Khmer, Math, Science and Social Studies. GU also offers a library borrowing system to our students which are frequently used to practice reading at home with their families.

ICT and English

GU has been providing students Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for students to develop their basic computer skills and communication in English. Aside from that, so they can adopt to different ways of using technology. They use computers and iPads to create presentation, video, and research by themselves.

Health and Nutritional food

The fact that our students are from families who are living under poverty, it is undeniably that they lack nutrition. GU provides them breakfast and lunch at school to ensure that students have good nutrition, happy and healthy. All students’ health are checked twice a year.


Material Support

Green Umbrella provides students resources for school such as pens, pencils, books, uniforms and other material support needed.


In order to increase the health and physical awareness of our students, GU integrate the soccer program to help students gain self-confidence and also to establish important life skills such as teamwork, leadership and discipline.

Meditation and Assembly

Every Friday morning, students practice mediation and then do student assembly in order to improve their personal management, self-confidence, public speaking and leadership at their young age.

Parents Involvement

To get parents involved in the education of their children, we established regular meetings with them and the teachers about the curriculum and their children’s performances. We also organize yearly events, where the parents can participate in school assemblies, observe their children on stage and school works.
